WHITEHAVEN Rugby League has announced the signing of forward Mason Lewthwaite from National Conference League side Kells ARLFC.

Lewthwaite, who celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday, scored 3 tries in 12 appearances for Kells last term and also has experience in the local rugby union scene playing several seasons with Penrith RUFC.

Lewthwaite also has international experience having previously represented England Community Lions Under 23’s in 2021 and 2022 against Ireland and Wales respectively but will now make the step up to the professional game alongside Clarke Chambers and Karl Garner who have already made the move from Kells ahead of the 2025 season.

Head coach Anthony Murray said: "I am so pleased Mason has decided to join us and commit to his first professional contract with his hometown club.

"Mason will give us some utility with him being able to play in the back row and centre and I’m looking forward to working with him and watching how he develops.

"He will bring real enthusiasm and energy to the team and another local player for our faithful to get behind."

Once again the club thanks Kells for their support and backing of Mason to make the step up to the professional game.
