WHITEHAVEN Rugby League has announced the signing of Jordan Burns.
He has been signed from Betfred League 1 neighbours Workington Town and will be returning to his hometown club for a second spell at The Ortus Rec.
Burns (29) first signed for his hometown club ahead of the 2014 Championship campaign and made his debut away to Dewsbury Rams scoring two tries in a 23-16 victory in the first of 14 appearances in his debut campaign.
Burns was an integral part of the club’s 2019 League 1 title-winning campaign making 18 appearances in all competitions scoring 10 tries and kicking nine goals.
"The final four tries of them coming in the club’s final game of the campaign in the victory that secured the league title away to Coventry Bears.
Following the conclusion of this campaign Jordan stepped away from the professional game having made 109 appearances in Haven colours scoring 52 tries and 37 goals for a points total of 282 points.
Burns returned to the professional game in 2023 with Workington Town and made 38 appearances across two seasons at Derwent Park scoring 18 tries under Haven’s new head coach Anthony Murray.
Mr Burns said: "It’s good to have an opportunity to come back, I spoke to Anthony Murray when he first got appointed and with working with him for the last two years I believe in his cause and believe he is the right man for the job. I want to be a part of helping him achieve that."
Head coach Anthony Murray added: "It’s great to see Jordan Burns has decided to come home and work with me again.
"When I decided to take the job at Whitehaven Jordan Burns was a must signing after previously working with him and getting to know what Jordan brings to a team his experience will be instrumental to what we want to do with a brand new, young, and largely inexperienced team at this level.
"His leadership qualities and his desire to be competitive every week will rub off on all around him."
