WHITEHAVEN RL is now facing relegation following a defeat against Batley.

The West Cumbrian side faced defeat in their game on Sunday, September 22, which 'practically relegates' Whitehaven, consigning them to the third tier in 2025.

Head coach Kyle Amor shared his disappointment with the result and what this now means for the club.

He said: "If I'm really honest that's the nail in the coffin. We came here today and had a real dig, we were better than we were against Barrow.

"We got a try in the second half, at Owen McCarron scored, he takes it from 20 points to 14, he kicked the ball off and we came off with an error giving the penalty away.

"It was 22-8 and the scoreboard was against us then along with the clock. But again, the story of our season has been not being able to put it together for 80 minutes.

"In the first half, we gave a yardage penalty away, they find much, they react much quicker than us just like that 40-20 at Barrow the other week. Then they score off that set just before half time which takes it to a ten-point swing.

"In the second half, we came up with two yardage errors, and they came up with two points off the back of it.

"Just as we were coming back and almost getting there, they just got another score ahead of us, in the end, we just had too much to chase."

Amor went on to give credit to the team and their efforts throughout the season describing them as 'tough individual men.'

He said that the team has earned respect not just from the people of Whitehaven but the wider game of rugby league.

Amor added: "There are a lot of people who have got so much respect for our lads."

He says that despite the efforts of the players, what the club has available isn't sustainable for them to keep playing at a Championship level.

Haven's next game will be on Sunday, September 29, against Halifax Panthers at the Ortus Rec.
