WHITEHAVEN RL faced a tough defeat against Bradford Bulls during their recent game.

The West Cumbrian side fell to a 58-0 defeat when they took on the Yorkshire outfit at Odsal Stadium.

Head coach Jonty Gorley spoke to Jordan Weir about the game, and said: "We didn't do great in the first half and didn't keep the ball as much as we needed to against a team like this but they're a big, strong, side aren't they?

"They fetched that bench on a Pele and Doro, and just when you think the middle ones are tiring and you're maybe going to get something out of them and it's just strange."

Whitehaven travelled to play in Yorkshire for this recent game on Sunday, August 11, playing away to the Bradford side.

Mr Gorley continued: "You've got to be up to at least 90 percent in your added sets, and at one point at around 30 minutes in we were about 40 percent in yardage.

"They were going full length when we turned the ball around on their line and so when you're going two or three sets on your own line, with repeats and back to ones because everything snowballs when you get tired. You've seen the amount of defending that we did and the ball we coughed up it's obvious that it will drain you.

"With some of the tries they got, they were just falling up because our lads were tired on their feet with doing so much defending.

"It's a lesson isn't it, I did give them a bit of a free reign today regarding some second-phase stuff after seeing what Barrow did this week.

"It caused them a lot of problems when they were up with the second phase stuff, so if your skills not there and you're defending another three sets, and you tried again coughing the ball up off one tackle and you're defending again.

"We were defending three or four sets at a time and weren't completing so it just absolutely sucked the life right out of us."
