ST Benedict's School has announced two more county champion teams.

Both the U13s and U15s Boys’ Rugby League teams made it through to the County Rugby League Final, both playing against Netherhall School.

The school said that the weather conditions were perfect at a sunny Derwent Park in Workington, a venue they explained was fit for the finals.

The Year 8 U13s game started with both teams grappling for dominance in the opening exchanges. In a tight contest, both teams struggled to complete sets early on due to the tenacious defense of both teams.

An excellent first half ended with St Benedicts narrowly ahead by a score of 18-10, scoring two particularly well-worked team tries in the lead-up to halftime.

The second half began in much the same vein for the first 10 minutes but St Benedicts began playing much more on the front foot and some excellent handling skills resulted in four tries in very quick succession.

The game was played in good spirit and ended 40-16 in favour of St. Benedict’s who claimed the County title and now face Bedford High School in the Quarter Final of the Schools National Cup.

St Benedicts fresh from claiming the u15 Rugby Union title recently, went into the year 10 game as strong favorites and did not disappoint.

In the opening 10 minutes, defences were on top as both teams sought to expose defensive weaknesses.

The St Benedict’s team began to put on some slick moves with players running very clever lines, which did expose gaps.

This pressure resulted in a score line of 32-0 at the break in a dominant first-half display.

The second half saw multiple changes and the game ebbed and flowed with tries for both sides ending in an emphatic 50-12 for St Benedict’s, who now move on to face Standish of Wigan in the National Quarter Final stage.

Mr Harrison said it was an excellent performance from all involved.
