EGREMONT ABC’s Billie Donaldson was picked to represent the Northwest region.
She was crowned 70kg woman’s box cup champion of the women’s winter box cup held in Leigh this weekend with a career-best performance.
Billie drew Carly Berry of Sussex. She was giving away height and reach and came out strong to take centre ring going to Berry’s body and backing the Sussex boxer to the rope with grit and determination.
Berry didn’t have an answer for the Egremont boxer's onslaught Billie winning the round.
In the second Billie cut the ring off better keeping up her fierce tempo and landing a well-timed over-the-top right hand to give Berry a standing eight count a few seconds later. the referee ended the contest with Billie winning by stoppage.
Billie was due to box former opponent Jenny Lyons from Warrington in the final but she had to withdraw on the day through illness.
Alan Toole Billie’s coach feels like Billie has been a victim of her own success as this is the 3rd time this opponent has pulled out after beating the Warrington boxer on her home show in September.
He said: "Billie has won her last three bouts and is improving all the time she’s a credit to the club, Egremont ABC's first champion."
