WHITEHAVEN born super league star James Donaldson has said it will be a ‘huge honour’ to play for Cumbria, ahead of Kyle Amor’s testimonial match next month.

The loose forward, who has played for Bradford Bulls, Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR in a shining rugby league career has been named as part of the squad for the Cumbrian side when they take on Wales at the LEL Arena in Whitehaven on October, 13.

Talking about what it will mean to play for the county, James said: “I last played for Cumbria when I was 16-year-old when I played for Wath Brow, but I haven’t actually had chance to play for them at a senior level.

“It’s something that I am really looking forward to. It’s something that I am very passionate about being Cumbrian, I’ve lived in Yorkshire for a while now but I’m proud of where I’m from so it’s a huge honour for me not just to represent myself but also my amateur club Wath Brow Hornets and my family as well.”

The match will mark the final game in the career of Cumbrian super league star Kyle Amor, with James saying he looks forward to playing alongside Kyle and in front of his friends and family

He said: “I’ve known Kyle since I moved away, we have played against each other a couple of time but have never actually played together, he has been a great ambassador for Cumbria trying to put us on the map in Super League like all Cumbrian lads try to do, we are massively passionate about being Cumbrian.”

“My mam has travelled down from Cumbria every game I think since I have been playing Super League and all the way whether it’s been in France or Toronto, so it’ll be nice for her to just roll down the road and watch a game.

“A lot of my friends do travel down to watch me when they can, so it’ll be really nice to have them there and a lot of the lads from my amateur club hopefully they will be there supporting too.”
