After 10 weeks of intense competition the final week of the ORTUS Energy Summer Series took place last Thursday at the Hensingham Rugby League Club.
A 24-strong round robin boiled down to some fantastic knock out matches where John Howlett beat Adam Blackburn 3-2 in a fantastic match with both displaying some heavy scoring and classy finishing.
John took out 72 in two darts to win the match after 21 ton plus scores between them in five legs.
The second quarter final was a tale of missed chances with Nick Twinn missing match darts before Tom Smith hit a nervy double two win 3-2.
Quarter final three saw Jimmy Clucas beat Craig Devine 3-1 to set-up the league decider with Ray Dockeray who beat Darren Parr 3-0 in the fourth quarter final, averaging 78 in the process including a max 180.
The first semi-final saw Tom beat John 3-1 and the second semi was the league decider as Jimmy and Ray went toe to toe. Jimmy coming through 3-1 in a more even game than the score suggests.
The final was a repeat of a few meetings between Tom and Jimmy, most of the previous had gone Jimmy’s way, but Tom turned out a superb performance with an 86.71 average including a max 180 and 3 from 5 on the doubles, winning 3-0.
This brought the curtain down on a superb ranking series, over 50 different players, after 588 matches, over 1,200 legs and a whopping 146 180s hit along the way.
After all that it was Jimmy Clucas who topped the pile to be crowned Champion of the ORTUS Energy Summer Series. The winning margin was just a measly but vital 2 leg difference over Ray Dockeray.
Marras & Arras would like to thank all the players and sponsors from the series and look forward to the 2023 Winter Series starting in October.
Thanks were also extended to ORTUS Energy, The Sunny Hill Pub, AK Electrical, Jacksons Timber, L&D Pluming & Tiling, DSD Construction, Clemmy Mossop Construction, Savage Bros. Building and Construction and The Drunken Monkeys.
