Egremont put up a superb fight before narrowly losing out to Carlisle in the Cumbria RFU Under-15 County Cup final 21-12.
A thrilling game of rugby entertained spectators at Wigton earlier this month, where both teams came out fired up for a thrilling cup final.
The first points came from a penalty kick for Carlisle early on in front of the sticks.
Once Egremont settled they took the lead with a try from George Fisher, pressure from the forwards drove him over the line from the back of the ruck leaving the half-time score 5-3 to Egremont.
Carlisle came out after the break with their eyes on the prize, with Egremont’s defence letting two tries through as they began to crumble.
Egremont’s second try came when Lewis Whitehead cracked Carlisle’s relentless defence. He broke down the wing, leaving the conversion for Jenson Burney.
Man of the match was given to Dylan Biggins whose passion throughout the game was undeniable.
Coach Adrian Pae said: “This was an outstanding game of rugby. The lads did themselves and the club proud, a huge achievement. It wasn’t the result the team hoped for, but after a fantastic season winning eight out of 11 games, many played out of county, the lads have come together as a team to be reckoned with.
“The Cumbria first team coach said he is certain the future will see the lads doing great things and winning many trophies.”
Following the game, the team held their end of season presentation back at Bleach Green.
