Ryan Fieldhouse was set to make his return to training for Workington Town last night in a huge boost for the club.
Fieldhouse, who joined Town in the close season from fellow Cumbrians Barrow Raiders, was going great guns in the early games but then he popped his AC joint in training back in February.
After going under the knife, the full-back has smashed his rehab to return to training earlier than expected.
Town chairman Les Smallwood admitted Fieldhouse’s return was just the tonic they needed after a loss at the weekend to Keighley Cougars.
“Ryan returning to training is a massive bonus for us,” said Smallwood.
“He is a brilliant player and we saw what he could do early on in the season.
“He was always there on the shoulder ready to score tries so it is a massive plus to have him back in traning.”
Fieldhouse himself is looking forward to getting back into action, as he tweeted yesterday: “Looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow.”
He said on his feed that the specialist had given him the all clear to return.
Town will move away from league action this weekend when they travel to take on Hunslet in the first round of the new 1895 Cup.
The clash at the South Leeds Stadium kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
