Workington Town will be making late fitness checks on several players ahead of the crunch Good Friday derby with neighbours Whitehaven.
There are question marks still hanging over skipper Ollie Wilkes, hooker Sean Penkywicz and second-rower Gordon Maudling.
The trio are all still suffering from knocks and head coach Leon Pryce says it is still only 50/50 as to whether they will take part in tomorrow’s clash at Derwent Park, ko 3pm.
“I would say they are all only 50/50 as to whether they will play,” admitted Pryce. “But we will have fitness assessments today to see how they all are.
“Obviously we don’t know if we can have any dual registration players as it is Easter weekend and the Super League teams tend to need their full squad.
“But we do have Izaac Farrell on loan for the rest of the season and James Worthington for another month and then we will go from there.”
With half-back Farrell coming into the Town squad, Pryce is keen to look at different combinations in the middle of the field and in the hooking role.
“We have got the chance to have a look around and see some different combinations and try and sharpen up our attack,” added Pryce.
“We have struggled in the hooking role while Penky has been injured and we missed Karl Olstrom for the first couple of games so it’s always good to keep it fresh.”
Another boost for the home side is the return of former Seaton amateur Tom Curwen to the pack, after being out for several weeks with an ankle injury.
He played at Leeds last Friday and Pryce was delighted to see the prop back on board.
“He is just getting back to full fitness so it was good to have him back out there at Leeds,” he added.
“Tom trains hard and he is really committed with a great attitude so it is good to see him returning.”
Pryce says they have now put the Coral Challenge Cup defeat at Headingley to the back of their minds and they are back to focusing on the bread and butter of League 1.
They take on a Whitehaven side who are currently joint top of the division and looking a different side to the one Town faced in pre-season, when Workington lifted the Ike Southward Memorial Shield.
“It is not often you play against a set of full time lads and it was a big scoreline but now we have to move on,” said Pryce.
“The league is our bread and butter and we don’t need to big this game up, everyone knows how important it is.”
