Although the county was affected by the weather and Storm Gareth last week the Whitehaven RUFC Sharks were able to partake in a full day’s worth rugby on Sunday.
First up, 10 Under-10s teams from nine clubs across the county convened at The Playground, home of Whitehaven RUFC to partake in their penultimate Cumbria Rugby Union Festival.
Over 100 players were able express their abilities during 15x15 minute matches spread across three pitches and each game was tensely fought with no team or player taking a backwards step.
Some fantastic rugby was played by all teams, showing both flair in attack and strength in defence.
The players were also watched from the touchlines by Cumbria's current St Helens and Ireland RL star Kyle Amor who came along to watch the action and also have a kick about with the kids when they weren’t playing.
During the afternoon, 30 members of the Sharks Under-7s squad had a great time when they were hosted by Whitehaven RLFC for their home game against Doncaster RLFC.
Before showing off their skills during some tag rugby matches at half time and whilst doing so becoming the first rugby union side to play the opposite code at half time in front of the cheering crowd, the kids acted as mascots and walked both teams out onto the pitch.
The club thanked Whitehaven RLFC for the matchday experience and also all the travelling sides that came from as far as Carlisle and Kirkby Lonsdale to take in the festival.
Next season the Sharks will be further expanding their youth teams to include Under-7/8/10/11 and 16s and welcome any new players, coaches or future sponsors.

The Whitehaven RUFC Sharks also thanked current sponsors Shepley Engineering Ltd, Ned Lister, GMB Union, Summergrove Halls, Clarks Whitehaven and Whitehaven Lions.
