Whitehaven RUFC Sharks’ under-10 team embarked on their first ever tour at the end of last month, travelling to Kingston Park, home of the Newcastle Falcons.
First up for the Sharks was Tynedale. The Sharks seemed to struggle in the early stages of the game through ill discipline and getting used to the new rules.
But they soon settled into the match and found themselves playing free flowing rugby. Tynedale didn’t back down. but the Sharks found that extra something to clinch the game 2-1.
Next up was Blyth. From the off, the Sharks learnt from their mistakes and kept Blyth pinned in their own half through solid defence.
Although Blyth managed to score a solitary consolation try, the Sharks were able to claim the win scoring five fantastic team tries.
With confidence running high, the Sharks got off to a great start against South Shields Westoe with five unanswered tries. Westoe were able to claim a try of their own but the Sharks were too strong to run out 10-1 winners.
In the final game the Sharks came up against a strong Darlington side with both teams trying to keep hold of their 100 per cent record. The game was tense with both teams showing great determination in attack and defence.
It was end to end rugby but at 2-2 the game was brought to an early end due to an injury to a Darlington player and both teams shared the spoils of a draw.
Afterwards, the Sharks met some of the Falcons players on the side of the pitch before watching the first team take on high flying Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership Rugby Cup.
Next up is the Cumbria RU Festival at Kendal RFC on Sunday.
