Workington face a huge meeting against league leaders Peterborough tonight at Derwent Park (7.45pm start) and the table is so close that they could travel to Newcastle on Sunday (5.30pm start) needing three points to secure their play-offs spot or top the table.
Sunday is the last day for teams to complete league fixtures to qualify for the play-offs, with more than half the league still capable of finishing in the top four.
Edinburgh have a home meeting against Berwick tonight while Lakeside are set to host Glasgow in the last ever match at the Arena Essex Raceway, with a ‘home’ doubleheader for the Hammers tomorrow night to be staged at Hoddesdon Stadium, Rye House.
Making matters more difficult is the absence of captain Ty Proctor tonight, with Comets set to use rider replacement for him and a guest for Dan Bewley, who is out for the season.
Proctor is also a doubt for Sunday, when Nicolai Klindt will be missing to ride in Poland and will be replaced by guest Aaron Summers.
Ben Barker, Coty Garcia and Jordan Stewart will guest for the Panthers tonight.
Team manager Tony Jackson said: “Who’s going to make that top four is still unknown but all we can do is not worry about anyone else, just try and win our two meetings.
“We want three points tonight and four points on Sunday and won’t be looking at the table until Sunday night.
“It’s a proper pressure match tonight but that’s what we’ve worked all season for so hopefully people will get down and support the lads.
“There are no second chances.”
Workington are third in the table, level on points with second-placed Glasgow and five points behind Peterborough.
They are a point and a place ahead of Edinburgh and four points above fifth-placed Lakeside.
Meanwhile, Comets are due to race their Championship Shield semi-final second leg against Scunthorpe at Derwent Park on Saturday, September 22 at 7pm.
The two sides will go into the meeting on level terms after a 45-45 draw at Scunthorpe last week.
