Storm Bert is set to have a significant impact on travel services in Cumbria tomorrow, with two separate companies already urging customers to change their plans.
High winds, heavy rain and potentially snow will hit the country on Saturday, and now now TransPennine Express have confirmed that all trains north of Carlisle will be cancelled, while Avanti West Coast have advised customers not to travel.
The Met Office has a number of weather warnings in place for Cumbria over the weekend with a yellow warning for rain snow in place from 4am on Saturday until 9am on Sunday, as well as a yellow weather warning for wind from 5am on Saturday until 9pm the same day, which is likely to cause disruption to travel services.
TransPennine Express (TPE) is giving customers the option to change their travel plans over the weekend as the train operator has been forced to cancel services running north of Carlisle due to Storm Bert tomorrow (Saturday 23 November).
Passengers affected will be able to use tickets bought for this weekend on any of its services from today (Friday 23 November) until Sunday (24 November) if they wish to change their travel plans.
Adam Fairclough, Interim Customer Experience and Transformation Director, said: “Due to bad weather over the weekend we have been forced to cancel some of our services on Saturday.
We want to keep our customers on the move during cold weather conditions, which is why we have teamed up with other operators and given passengers the option to change their plans to travel with us.
“We urge anyone planning to use our services to check before they travel in case of any disruption during Storm Bert."
Meanwhile, Avanti West Coast has advised customers not to travel north of Preston this weekend.
Tickets purchased for this route can be reused up until Monday, November 25.
