A DRINK-driver was caught by police who went to her home after she had given false details of a wanted person earlier in the evening.

Police had been called to an incident on Tangier Street in Whitehaven on October 5  where a male was aggressively kicking the window of a bar to get the attention of Margaret Rooney, 29.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting at Workington Magistrates’ Court, said Rooney had provided some false details but gave the details of a person who was wanted by police so was arrested.

About 40 minutes later, officers arrived at her address in Cleator Moor to make arrest enquiries for the wanted person. Rooney then arrived back in her Ford Kuga vehicle.

She was asked to provide a sample of breath and gave a reading of 102mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit to drive is 35mcg.

She gave an evidential sample of 93mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath at the police station.

Rooney, of Aldby Place, Cleator Moor, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to driving a motor vehicle with alcohol level above the limit.

The defendant, who was not legally represented,  had nothing to say about the offence.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month driving ban, to be reduced by 23 weeks, if Rooney completes the drink-driver’s rehabilitation course.

She was fined £200 and must pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
