A UNIVERSITY student must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register after he admitted making indecent images of children.
Matei Lungu, 19, pleaded guilty to the following offences when he appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court on Monday:
- Making five category A (the most serious category of child abuse images) indecent images of a child
- Making 30 category B indecent images of a child
- Making one category C indecent image of a child
The offences took place in Whitehaven between September 2019 and September 2022.
Prosecutor Pamela Fee said one of the Category A images was of a child aged around six years old. Ms Fee said the case was not appropriate for sentence in the magistrates’ court and should be sent to the crown court.
Mike Woolaghan, defending, said Lungu is a student in Manchester, where he resides during term time. He said the term would finish on December 13, to allow for sentence on December 16.
Lungu, of Patterdale Close, Whitehaven, will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on that date. He was made subject to notification requirements and must present himself to police in person within three days.
