THE Princess Royal visited west Cumbria on Thursday.

Her Royal Highness came to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven to officially open the new £40 million redevelopment of the facility.

The Whitehaven and Workington MP Josh MacAlister, the high sheriff, and the lord lieutenant were there to greet The Princess on her arrival.

She met with staff who were working at the facility and spoke to patients receiving treatment on the wards.

The new facility consists of four wards treating a variety of patients.

In particular, the Stroke Rehabilitation Ward aims to assist stroke patients as they begin to return home.

The ward includes an outdoor area with a 'challenge path' that helps patients to become more mobile.

Here are some pictures from the visit.
