A comedian of over 50 years known for hishis blue humour and profanity-laced performances is coming to Cumbria.

Roy 'Chubby' Brown is 'still going strong' after over half a century in comedy, and is about to embark on a large UK tour in 2025, featuring the Solway Hall in Whitehaven on May 9.

With a stage persona characterised by his distinctive flying helmet, goggles, and flamboyant patchwork suit, Brown became a fixture of the UK comedy scene in the 1970s and 1980s.

His comedy is crude and often touches on taboo subjects such as race, sexuality, and gender, which has drawn both a devoted fanbase and widespread criticism.

Despite his popularity among some audiences, his work has been banned from various television networks, and some venues refuse to host his performances due to the offensive nature of his material.

Supporters argue that his abrasive comedy represents freedom of speech and is an expression of working-class humour, while detractors contend that it perpetuates harmful stereotypes and outdated views.

He remains a divisive figure in the world of British comedy, with his legacy tied to debates about the limits of humour and censorship.

A promotional description for the event reads: "Countless DVDs (30-plus), numerous books and CDs, thousands of live shows in a career spanning decades and millions of fans worldwide are still testimony to the fact that even in these on going crazy times of woke, cancellation, political correctness culture, Roy is still the best of the best."
