A Banksy-style mural has appeared on the wall of a college.

The artwork, which appeared at Lakes College, is the first of several that aim to reflect the institution's principles of 'being Ready, Respectful, and showcasing Potential.'

The mural depicts two seagulls surrounding a bin, pecking at scattered chips.

The scene is topped with the words "Don't Feed the Birds," intended to highlight the issue of littering and personal responsibility.

The murals were inspired by Banksy after he garnered attention over the summer.

The college saw this as an opportunity to engage students in a creative manner, working the college's values into everyday conversations.

Iain Glendinning, vice principal at Lakes College, said: "The project Banksy, being run by our art team and students, is a really positive and fun way to reinforce the college values of Ready, Respectful, and Potential.

"Rather than having posters and displays saying 'don't do this' or 'don't do that,' we are using the art to encourage students to think about the message and relate it to their own choices in being ready for learning and work, respectful to themselves, others, and their environment, and ultimately realising their potential.

“At the same time, our art students are learning valuable techniques and seeing the impact that art can have in the community and for individuals.

"I believe that art should be thought-provoking, and that education is about developing people, not controlling them.

"This project delivers on both fronts."

As more murals emerge, they will continue to inspire new ways of thinking about the college's values.
