A couple's 'free solo' adventure around the Lake District is set to be the focus of an upcoming BBC show. 

As part of the eighth series of Our Lives, Anna Taylor and Mat Wright, who live in the Lake District, have been documented as they embark on their 'biggest challenge yet': a 100-mile trek through the region, climbing some of the Lake District's famous peaks—without ropes or support.

The couple’s adventure, aptly named The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge, follows them as they attempt to complete the journey in just seven days whilst camping along the way and carrying all their supplies on their back. 

Among the peaks, the pair will climb six routes 'free solo' including the 778-metre Dow Crag near Coniston and the likes of Helvellyn. 

"With just one week to complete their adventure, they must tackle the unpredictable British weather and the brutal realities of camping in the wilderness. Anna and Mat are confident in their abilities but the odds are stacked against them," the programme listing reads. 

"Climbing free solo has taught them about coping with the stresses of everyday life and love. To survive they must trust each-other and resolve conflicts fast. And by the end of their journey they must decide together what happens next." 

The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge will broadcast on Friday, October 18, on BBC One at 7.30pm.
