Four restaurants in Cumbria have been named by TripAdvisor as some of the best spots for date night.

On Tuesday, September 24, the winners of the 2024 Travellers' Choice Awards were announced, revealing the 'best of the best' restaurants both across the country and worldwide.

Based on 12 months of global review data, the awards showcase TripAdvisor users’ favourite dining spots across nine categories: Casual Dining, Date Night, Fine Dining, Hidden Gems, Outdoor, Pet-Friendly, Sustainable, Quick Bites, and Vegan and Vegetarian.

It turns out that Cumbria has a knack when it comes to providing the perfect setting for relationships old and new.

The Old Stamp House in Ambleside, run by brothers Ryan and Craig Blackburn, was said to be the best place in the UK for date night.

It is by no means the first taste of recognition that the Michelin-starred business has received having been crowned as the AA's 'Restaurant of the Year for England' last year

Just pipped by 'Fifty' in Cornwall, Jackson's Bistro of Bowness-on-Windermere finished in third position.

A trip to the north of the county might be on the cards if you are looking to impress your significant other with the 1863 Restaurant at Pooley Bridge claiming seventh spot.

And even further north, Carlisle's Pentonbridge Inn rounded off the top 10, cementing Cumbria as the most densely populated region in the UK when it comes to date night spots.

Restaurants in the county have also excelled in other categories according to TripAdvisor's latest round of awards.

Both the Old Stamp House and Pentonbridge Inn placed in the top 10 for fine dining experiences in the nation, with the former only beaten to top spot by Northcote Restaurant in Lancashire.

And Boardwalk Bar and Grill in Bowness was also recognised as one of the best pet-friendly sites worldwide.

The restaurant finished in tenth spot, joining three other UK businesses on the list.
