AS rumours swirl about another major movie franchise filming its latest sequel in the Lake District, we have taken a look at just some major Hollywood blockbusters which have been filmed in the national park in recent times.
The A-lister, who won the Best Actor Academy Award for ‘Oppenheimer’ earlier this year, has been filming at Bowness Cottage in Ennerdale.
A fence was built around the cottage and raised beds with plants were put in the back garden while filming took place.
It is understood that crews have been filming the end of part one of the 28 Years Later horror trilogy and the beginning of part two, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
As the film looks set to feature some iconic Lake District scenes when it is released, we have taken a look at some other blockbusters which have also featured Lake District landscapes in recent times:
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2024)
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy was confirmed earlier this year and is set for release in early 2025.
Over a weekend, lead actress Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones) and 12 years a slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (who plays a PE teacher and Bridget's rumoured love interest) were spotted filming a school trip scene for the new movie in Keswick.
Supernova (2019)
Throughout the trailer a myriad of well loved Lake District sites can be spotted, including Buttermere, Crummock Water and Keswick.
During the visit Firth visited Sedbergh where he was pictured with Sedbergh School pupils and the Keswick Alhambra cinema to watch Judy, a drama about Judy Garland.
Mission: Impossible 7 (2021)
Footage showed the 59-year-old gliding across the picturesque Buttermere Lake.
Seconds after safely paragliding to the ground, the actor was seen smiling and joking with crew.
Miss Potter (2006)
No surprise that one of Cumbria's best known-figures, Beatrix Potter's, autobiographical film Miss Potter was filmed in the Lake District - allowing for actress Renee Zellweger to portray the life of the children's book author's rise to fame.
Included in the back-drop and the narrative are the sites of Loughrigg, Grasmere, Loweswater and Coniston - with Whitehaven's The Rum Story making an appearance as the set of William Heelis’ offices.
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
Based on the original Grimm fairy tale, the movie brought around A-listers such as Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth to the Lakes as they used locations such as the Cathedral Cave and Blea Tarn within its production.
The Voyage of Dr Dolittle (2020)
The village of Kirkby Lonsdale was transformed into Victorian era Britain for a chase scene in Dolittle: a fantasy film about Doctor Dolittle which brought the likes of Robert Downey Jr and Antonio Banderas to South Lakes town.
