Multiple Cumbrian agencies were called upon on Tuesday evening to assist Belfast Coastguard in searching for a missing person.

St Bees RNLI, Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Teams, Cumbria Police, and Wasdale Mountain Rescue collaborated to support the search in the St Bees area.

The St Bees RNLI was already out at sea conducting its regular Tuesday training exercise when it joined the multi-agency search at 7.30pm.

The police located the missing person who was found safe and well.

Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team wrote on social media: "We were tasked yesterday evening for a search in the area of St Bees.

"Joined by colleagues from Cumbria Police, Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team and St Bees RNLI (who were already afloat for their weekly training) initial searches were swiftly underway.

"With search areas expanding, a request was made for Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199 and Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team to assist in the search.

"Whilst teams were readying to head out for the next phase of searching, the welcome news was received that Police had located the missing person safe."
