A man is preparing to take on a fundraising challenge for charity - walking 100 miles alongside a club mascot.

Josh Stevenson, who has family ties in Whitehaven, will walk the distance for charity Casual Minds Matter in a five-day challenge alongside Padiham Football Club mascot, Albus Dumbledog.

The route he has planned will start at Padiham Football Club on July 30 and end at The Sunny Hill pub in Whitehaven on August 3.

Mr Stevenson said: "My Grandparents Alan Hargreaves and Mary Hargreaves moved there in 1969, as my Grandad was a technical engineer down the pit in Burnley.

"When that closed, he was asked to move up there to work at Haig Pit.

"Sadly they’ve both passed away, but my aunties and cousins still live there."

Mr Stevenson has a history of raising money for Casual Minds Matter and supports the work they do within the community.

He said: "This will be the second time I’ve raised money for Casual Minds now.

"I believe the work they’re doing in Burnley and for the community is indispensable."

The fundraiser expressed his gratitude to the main sponsors of his walk, including Padiham FC, Steeltech Kinetix, and The Sunny Hill Pub.

He said: "I’m really grateful for their generosity and help.

"Albus is a season ticket holder at Padiham and their club mascot so to have their support is fantastic.

"Secondly, Steeltech Kinetix is my brother's firm, he’s the best big brother you could ask for.

"And to Adrian aka Macky at the Sunny Hill - one of the most generous and kindest people I’ve ever met."

Pitching up his one-man tent along the way, Mr Stevenson will be heading to Gisburn Forest on the first day, then to Kirkby Lonsdale, Windermere, Boot, and finally Whitehaven.
