FOR this week's Nostalgia edition we wanted to take a look at The Beacon museum in Whitehaven.

The Beacon is situated on the historic Georgian harbour, it a museum and arts venue that tells the history of the local area.

The surrounding area of Copeland covers two world heritage sites which include the Lake District fells and the western coastline.

The museum traces the social, industrial and maritime heritage of the area, using local characters, audio-visual interactive displays and museum pieces.

Whilst visitors can learn about Whitehaven's heritage through the exhibitions, they can also get a view of the town in the modern day as the top floor gallery looks right across the town and onto the Solway Coastline.

Exhibitions in recent years have assessed all corners of history including Romans, Vikings, and Victorians, all of which has helped shape the character of the town and the areas that surround it.

The Beacon has also tried to educate the public about the significance of Sellafield over the years, telling the story of West Cumbria's nuclear industry.

Displays in the museum have detailed how the nuclear industry has shaped Whitehaven's economy over the decades that it's been open and looks to how the nuclear site will bring us into the future.

Those who visit The Beacon can also browse the gift shop and the range of local goods that are on offer.

These photos show how people have enjoyed The Beacon museum over the years. We hope that these pictures will help to bring back some fond memories for some of you.
