THIS week the NHS Melissa Bus visited a school in West Cumbria.

The idea behind this was for staff from North Cumbria Integrated Care to discuss career opportunities with young people at The Whitehaven Academy.

The young people got to learn about what a career with the NHS would entail, with a specific focus on radiology.

In a post on social media, The Whitehaven Academy wrote: "The NHS Melissa bus and team arrived at The Whitehaven Academy. The team, from the NHS and The University of Cumbria, explained to our students career paths with the NHS, particularly within radiography.

"All of the team were friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic about what they do and what our students could be doing in the future.

"They provided students with many opportunities that included seeing inside a human body using VR, identifying parts of the body from X-rays, and an experiment in the application of radiotherapy that involves Nerf guns.

"The students left with more knowledge about future careers and a taste of what it is like to work for the NHS.

"We can’t thank the team enough for giving our students this opportunity. We look forward to their return."
