A VILLAGE is celebrating its milestone birthday with the return of a gala week – for one year only.

After decades away, Seascale Gala Week is back with a host of special events to mark the village’s 175th birthday.

The week will culminate on June 22 in the traditional parade from the top of Gosforth Road down to the cricket pitch with four hours of entertainment.

The focus of Gala Week is both to celebrate 175 years since the railways came to bring the village into the modern world but also to focus on the many clubs and associations without whom the community would not thrive.

On the last day (June 22), there will be a fishing competition from the Boat Club, alongside the village parade (with road closure on Gosforth Road from 11:45).

At noon the recreation ground will then be hosting - kids sports, tug of war, Gladiators style inflatable experiences, a penalty shoot-out experience, line dancing, GADS performance, Cumbria Clothes swap, the Egremont Town Band, DJ music, arts and crafts stalls, free steam train rides, face painting, Moky Fit work out, a balloon artist, food stalls, classic cars, Batman and Wonder Woman making a special appearance, and later in the evening a live rhythm and blues band at the Windscale club.

The Gala Week is on from June 16-22 and is free to attend.
