NEW data has revealed that the Cumberland district is the second easiest place to get planning permission approved in the UK.

Trade Fix Direct, a building materials supplier, has investigated which areas of the UK you are most and least likely to get planning permission granted, by analysing government data on historic planning applications between 2000 and 2024.

According to the statistics, almost 96 per cent of planning permission applications have been approved in Cumberland.

At the other end of the scale, projects in Hillingdon, London, are the least likely to get planning permission granted, with just 62 per cent of requests approved between 2000 and 2024.

A Cumberland Council spokesperson said: "Cumberland prides itself about being positive about considered development.

"Our teams work hard with applicants providing advice and support to get the best scheme we can early on in the process."

Paul Kershaw at Trade Fix Direct said:  “If you’re looking to start a renovation or construction project, it’s important to find out whether you will require planning permission and to request this, where applicable.

"To give yourself the best chance of success, it’s always good to be in the know about acceptance rates and to follow best practices when making an application.”
