Mike Johnson, currently the Deputy Police Fire and Crime Commissioner is standing in the May elections to become the next Police and Fire Crime Commissioner for Cumbria.
A born and bred Cumbrian, Mike has held various elected positions from Parish Councillor to Borough and County Councillor. In 2020 he was appointed Leader of Allerdale Borough Council and guided the Council through the Covid-19 pandemic.
With Mike’s outstanding track record and experience as Deputy PFCC he is the only candidate that fully understands the complexity of the role, has the knowledge and ability to continue to oversee and improve services across Police and Fire to keep us all safe.
Mike’s Commitments to Cumbria
Be tough on crime and keep you safe:
Boosting police numbers past their current record level of 1363 and further investment in Community Beat Officers, who will be visible to you.
Protect our communities:
Ensuring Cumbria is a ‘no-go’ zone for criminals and is as safe as it can be in preventing crimes and fires, using technology to the best advantage. This includes a specific focus on rural crime and a dedicated response team to deal with ASB hotspots in our communities.
Additional support for victims:
No-one should be a victim of crime, but for those who are, I will ensure they receive the appropriate support from a dedicated team.
Making our roads safer:
I firmly believe that our roads must be safer for us all to use. One of my key priorities is to work with young people and educate them about dangerous driving and prevention. I will commit to ensuring the Road Traffic Collisions teams work collaboratively and effectively to assist in times of crisis.
Prevention is key:
We will continue our programme of fire prevention to both young people and the most vulnerable within our communities. I will also develop a similar approach for policing to educate us on how to keep ourselves safe.
Building for the future:
Accelerating the collaborative work between the back-office functions of Police, Fire, and other blue light services; I am firmly committed to maintaining front line services in a way that is both effective and sustainable.
Supporting today’s young people:
It is important that young people have a strong voice in our communities. It is crucial that we work with them to understand their concerns and support them in making good choices whilst also providing opportunities to engage with our police and fire teams.
Tackling drugs:
Collaborating with neighbouring police forces has been vital in reducing drug use and preventing drugs from entering the county. We will continue to work closely with third parties to support them in deliver outreach programmes for those recovering from addiction.
