A MAN has appeared in court accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Liam McConnell, 29, of no fixed address, faces a charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
During a brief hearing at Workington Magistrates’ Court this morning, McConnell, dressed in a grey jumper and joggers, spoke only to give his name, age and address.
Police were contacted at 3:08am on Sunday morning following an incident on George Street which left a man with serious injuries.
The injured man, aged in his 30s, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. He remains there today in a critical but stable condition.
The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court with a hearing set for May 14. No application was made for bail and McConnell was remanded in custody.
Police arrested three men following the incident. Two of those men were released with no further action yesterday evening (April 15).
Officers remain keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning and is yet to come forward.
