THE ‘heartbroken’ girlfriend of a popular dad-to-be has paid tribute to her ‘soulmate’, following his sudden death.
Andrew McKain, 28, of Whitehaven, who was head doorman at The Junction pub in Workington, passed away while at work over the weekend.
He was a well-known face in pubs across west Cumbria and at Whitehaven Rugby League Club, where he also worked on the doors.
A fundraiser set up to support Mr McKain’s pregnant girlfriend, Chloe Aitchison, and her two sons, has already raised more than £6,000.
In a moving tribute to the father of her unborn child, Chloe, said: “Heartbroken doesn’t even come close to how I’m feeling right now at the fact I’ve lost not only my partner in life but I’ve lost my best friend, my soulmate, our boys’ dada, our baby’s daddy.
“I will always, for the rest of my life, feel the most horrendous emptiness and sadness that I no longer have you by my side.
“The time we were blessed with just wasn’t enough. I wasn’t ready to let you go. This was supposed to be the best year of our life.
“I have no idea how I will ever live without you but I promise you I’m going to try my best for the kids. I’ll love you forever and ever, me and you, you and me.”
Kirsty Murray-Chamley, a friend of the couple, who set up the fundraising page, said: “Chloe has two young boys who Andrew adored so the fundraiser is to help buy the last of her baby things and help while she’s off work and gets back on her feet.
“Andrew always did his best to provide for them all. He was the kindest man and did anything for his family.
“I never thought the amount would double in such a short time and it’s still climbing. It just shows how loved he was and everyone wants to support Chloe, the boys and baby.”
Pubs across west Cumbria have paid tribute to Mr McKain who has been described as an 'amazing person' and a 'kind, caring' and 'professional' door supervisor.
A statement posted on Facebook from The Junction in Workington said: “Very sad day for The Junction family today.
“Last night we not only lost our head doorman but a good friend. Always had our backs. Sleep tight big lad.”
A statement from Whitehaven Rugby League Club said: “The club were devastated to find out of the passing of Andrew McKain.
“Andrew had been a regular face on the doors of the JJ McKeown bar on a match day keeping our fans safe.
“All our thoughts are with the McKain family at this difficult and extremely saddening time.”
A statement from The Pour House in Whitehaven said: "So very sad and heartbreaking to hear of the passing of such an amazing person who graced the lives of so many in Whitehaven and Workington.
"Andrew McKain, one of the kindest and most caring door men we have had the pleasure of knowing. Sleep tight buddy."
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Police attended after being alerted by NWAS at 12:55am on April 7 – to a concern for welfare of a man on Upper Jane Street, Workington.
"A man in his 20s was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner."
