Tributes paid to west Cumbrian doorman, Andrew McKain

Andrew McKain, of Whitehaven, was the head doorman at The Junction pub in Workington and was a well-known face at Whitehaven Rugby League, where he also worked on the doors of the JJ McKeown bar.

Pubs across west Cumbria have paid tribute to Mr McKain, who has been described as an 'amazing person' and a 'kind, caring' and 'professional' door supervisor.

A statement posted on social media by The Junction said: “Very sad day for The Junction family today.

“Last night we not only lost our head doorman but a good friend. Always had our backs. Sleep tight big lad.”

A statement from Whitehaven Rugby League said: “Shortly before the match yesterday the club were devastated to find out of the passing of Andrew McKain.

“Andrew had been a regular face on the doors of the JJ McKeown bar on a match day keeping our fans safe.

“All our thoughts are with the McKain family at this difficult and extremely saddening time.”

A statement from Joe Bananas pub in Whitehaven said: "It’s with a sad heart that us at Joe Bananas and Shakers hear the very sad news of Andrew’s passing.

"Andrew worked on both doors often and with him came the spirit of the lad, a well mannered, polite and professional door supervisor.

"He will be sadly missed, from all the staff at both pubs we send our deepest condolences to Andrew’s family and friends."

A statement from The Pour House in Whitehaven said: "So very sad and heartbreaking to hear of the passing of such an amazing person who graced the lives of so many in Whitehaven and Workington.

"Andrew McKain, one of the most kindest and caring door men we have had the pleasure of knowing. Sleep tight buddy."

A statement from the Stock Exchange bar in Whitehaven said: "Sad day today. We send our heartfelt condolences to all of Andrew’s family and friends."

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "Police attended after being alerted by NWAS at 12:55am on April 7 – to a concern for welfare of a man on Upper Jane Street, Workington.

"A man in his 20s was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner."
