A GROUP of Sellafield apprentices will be climbing the three peaks for charity.
This summer 15 Sellafield staff will be climbing the three highest peaks in Britain to raise money for charity in one day.
The challenge will see them climb Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in Cumbria, and Ben Nevis in Scotland all over the course of 24 hours.
This is in aid of the Northwest Air Ambulance Service; The Three Peak Challenge covers 26 miles with an ascent of 3064 metres.
The Northwest Air Ambulance Service is one of Sellafield's recognised chosen charities and provides emergency response in the community. It is vital in saving the lives of people who may be in inaccessible places.
Archie Knight, who is taking part in the challenge, said: "A group of degree apprentices are going to be partaking in the 24 Hour Three Peak Challenge.
"We'll be starting at Ben Nevis at 6am on June 1, then travel to Scafell Pike and onto Snowdon within 24 hours. We'll aim to finish at 6am on June 2.
"With us living in the Lake District we see the importance of the Northwest Air Ambulance Service reaching people who are in a bit of bother in difficult-to-reach places.
"They are not supported by the NHS, and it is all funded through donations and fundraisers so that's why we wanted to support it.
"We're all excited and raring to go, a lot of it's just fundraising at the minute. Some of us are fell walkers and some aren't but we're all going to the gym and doing fell walking as a group."
So far, they have managed to raise over £800 and they have set their target at £10,000.
Lead organiser of the challenge, degree apprentice, Aaron Watters, added: "We understand the significance of the Northwest Air Ambulance service, especially within the Lake District.
"This intense challenge is a great way to raise money and to develop our skills as degree apprentices.
"We've set up a GoFundMe page so donations can be made easily, and any donations made are greatly appreciated and go towards supporting a great cause."
