THE featured artist for March at Lowes Court Gallery, Egremont, is Rachel Metcalfe from Gosforth.
Rachel explores the West Cumbrian landscape through what she describes as ‘the experience of walking’ to create vibrant and colourful paintings.
Inspired by the natural world and its phenomena, Rachel is an artist who records her walking journeys through sketches made on location.
She then translates these drawings into paintings using a range of media. Constantly seeking new perspectives, she peels back the layers of a place to discover something new.
Gareth Harrison, of Lowes Court Art Gallery said: "Lowes Court is delighted to welcome Rachel back with her latest set of work representing the varied land and seascapes of West Cumbria, from the rugged mountain tops to the beautiful, wild and isolated beaches."
There will be a ‘Meet the Artist’ day on Saturday, March 2 at the gallery, from 10am to 1.30pm and all are welcome.
The exhibition wall is on now and will be on display until March 30, and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 1.30pm.
