FOLLOWING the news about the Body Shop entering administration, businessman Gerard Richardson expressed concern about retailers' difficulties.
However he remains positive about Whitehaven's future.
Mr Richardson said: "Along with Whitehaven Town Council, we've got a lot of town centre activities planned and the aim of them is to get folk re-acquainted with the town centre, and the first one of those is our community Firewalk next Tuesday, February 20 at 5.30pm in St Nicholas Gardens.
"There's still room for people to take part by the way and you can collect a form from our shop or by emailing clerk@whitehaventowncouncil.co.uk
"If anyone wants to do it to tick off a life box they can raise money for their favourite charity or alternately they can do it for a £50 donation to the Henderson Cancer Suite at West Cumberland Hospital.
"On the subject of the High Street, it is really difficult out there at the moment but the solution is in the hands of locals.
"This is our town and ultimately we will get what we make so my message to folks is to do your best to buy it locally if you can and support the regular markets run by TEG on King Street and St Nicholas Gardens by the Town Council."
