A FATHER from Egremont will take on a challenge in the air as he raises money for a charity dedicated to his daughter's charity.
John Maxwell will take part in a Wing Walk in memory of his daughter, Danica with funds going to Danica's Dream Fund.
Sadly, Danica died at her Egremont home on December 22 in 2010, aged just 15, after fighting three brain tumours. Danica's Dream Fund was set up in 2010 by her parents, John and Allison.
A wing walk is where you are strapped into a backrest on the top wing before taking flight. In order to take part in the wing walk, there is a weight limit which means that John will have to lose 2-and-a-half stone in total, with him already shedding a stone so far. John said: "I have to lose another stone-and-a-half and be able to climb onto the top of the plane unaided."
"It is with grit and determination whilst following a diet I will do this, all for Danica."
John has taken part in numerous challenges to raise money for Danica's Dream Fund, and he knew he wanted to cross this one off next. He said: “I wanted to do something for ages and when Danica was poorly I said I would."
John, who works in security has been asked if he is nervous, but he said: "to be honest, I am chuffed, I can't wait for July to come."
“It will be scary but nowhere near as scary as what Danica faced, it is nothing compared to Danica. That’s what's giving me that push."
The Wing Walk will take place on July 20 2024 and John has set a target of £1,000. He hopes that this challenge will be one of the biggest charity events he has done for Danica's Dream Fund.
