A MAN will be sentenced next month after admitting an assault with a baseball bat.
John Maclaurin, 51, used the weapon to strike his victim, causing injuries to the man’s side. The offence took place in Egremont on August 14, 2022.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting at Workington Magistrates' Court, said the victim was taken to hospital and was discharged but his health later deteriorated.
He was having fits and then suffered a mini stroke. His mental health had also deteriorated, the court was told.
Maclaurin, of The Ferns, Egremont, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.
Ms Fee said the case was outside of magistrates’ sentencing powers.
Maclaurin’s defence solicitor, Mike Woolaghan agreed and the case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court for sentence on February 26.
