THE slipway on Whitehaven harbour has been temporarily closed as construction work continues on 'The Edge'.
The slipway was installed in recent years on the outer part of the harbour to provide a facility for boats and other marine equipment to get in and out of the water and onto the beach.
The Harbour Commissioners have said that there will temporarily be no access to the slipway as work continues on The Edge structure.
A spokesperson from the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners said last week: "Please note the slipway access near The Edge will have to be temporarily closed after this weekend for approximately four weeks.
"This is for safety reasons while essential work takes place around that area of the construction site.
"We've been assured the closure won't affect the steps from Old Quay to Golden Sands, which will remain open. Apologies for any inconvenience."
Construction on The Edge began back in 2021 with the plan being to create an outdoor activity centre and also provide accommodation to tourists and those doing the Coast to Coast route.
