THIS week a West Cumbrian youth theatre group put on their performance of Sister Act.
Crowds gathered at The Solway Hall in Whitehaven to enjoy two performances of the hit musical.
Throughout the weekend, two shows were staged: one group performed on Saturday, and the second group performed on Sunday.
The production was put together by A&B Stage School which caters to children aged four years old right the way up to 18.
Since January 2023, the children and teenagers have been learning and rehearsing the script and songs.
Last summer they were taken on a trip to the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick to see an amateur production of Sister Act.
This gave them a chance to learn more about the characters and for each child to understand their individual roles in the play.
Boy, did it pay off. Their show was faultless, each performer played their part superbly and really drew the crowd into the story.
It was easy to see that they had all done a lot of training to ensure that the show ran smoothly.
Much of the acting was incredibly impressive, with many of the girls putting on a professional standard of performance.
Watching the show it was obvious that there was a great deal of hard work that had gone into making this production of Sister Act as good as it could be.
The audience all seemed thrilled with the young people's skills on the stage, clapping and cheering during major parts of the play and creating a fantastic atmosphere.
There were around a couple of hundred people in the audience and even before the show began there seemed to be real anticipation of what the show would be like, and it certainly did not disappoint.
Sister Act follows the story of a lounge singer, Deloris Van Cartier, who gets caught up with a gangster.
After accidentally witnessing his gang killing someone, she flees and is put into hiding by the police.
The place where she is put into hiding is a convent and she must pretend to be a nun.
The story then follows Deloris' humorous antics with the other nuns, in particular Mother Superior.
The show culminates in Deloris being found by her gangster boyfriend and the other nuns coming to her aid.
