Supporters from all around the country gathered for a traditional shepherds' meet which has been running for more than 100 years.

There was a packed schedule at Wasdale Shepherd's Meet.

The popular event in a stunning setting kicked off at 10am with sheep classes. "There were some really good ones," said long-time secretary Mike Naylor.

This was followed by children's sports, non-working and pet dog classes, hound trails and the highly-contested fell race.

"The race up Kirk Fell is always a good attraction," said Mike.

The afternoon involved a boots and beard competition, terrier classes, terrier racing and shepherds' dog classes.

There were also vintage displays, Cumberland Wrestling and a selection of stalls.

"We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that came and made the show possible, despite the rain showers between the sunshine," said Mike.

"We have a lot of regular supporters who come from all over, including Devon and Worcestershire."

He was pleased to welcome some younger members on to the committee.

"The committee worked really hard, as ever. It's great to have some younger members who all worked hard," said Mike, 67.

"I've been doing this a million years so we need some new blood. This year I had to answer more than 1,000 emails about the show."

Each year the show raises money for a local charity. This year they chose to support Bee Unique, which supports families with autistic children, and were delighted to raise £1,000 for them.

Charity co-founder Martin McCarron was at the show.

"Lots of fun was had with the fun races and sporty activities for children," he said.

"We really do appreciate everyone's support. It is only with support like this, we can continue to do what we do as we run Bee Unique completely voluntarily."
