The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven is offering free admission on the weekend of September 30 and October 1.
Visitors are invited to view the family-friendly galleries, exhibitions and permanent collections at the museum. Executive member for vibrant and healthy places, Councillor Anne Quilter said: “A visit could be combined with a walk along the harbour, or up to the Candlestick. Please come along and enjoy a free day out on us.”
Cllr Quilter recommends exploring the Roman exhibition, the region's nuclear heritage section, and the history of Cumberland area.
September 30 marks the opening of Cumberland Sports, running until January 7, 2024, a tribute to the local sports scene. Mini Golf, a nine-hole course experience teaching about Cumberland, launches on October 21 and stays till April 15, 2024.
The Beacon Museum is open daily from 10am to 4.30pm during school holidays and from Tuesday to Sunday during term time.
Every first Sunday of every month, they hold a ‘quiet hour’ for the first hour of opening (10am - 11am).
