Rotary Club of West Lakeland help upgrade village foothpath with a grant from the Mid Copeland GDF Community Partnership.
The historic footpath from Holmrook to St Paul's Church Irton in Cumberland, dating back to the 1800's, which was reduced to an unmanaged, muddy track is now accessible to all, thanks to the intervention of the Rotary Club of West Lakeland.
The National Parks Authority intervention has further improved the route with drainage and resurfacing. The walkway goes past Kirklands' fields to St Paul's Church, offering breathtaking panoramas of the Wasdale Fells along the way.
A grant of £4,300 from the Mid Copeland GDF Community Partnership, sought by former President Robert Douglas, replaced broken stiles with new gates and cleared spaces for the planting of woodland saplings.
An oak, the symbol of maturity and strength, was planted, with a plaque commemorating the Coronation of King Charles III.
Additional support from West Lakeland Rotarians saw a new gate installed at St Paul's Church Irton, crowning two years of efforts with a pathway open to all.
