A west Cumbrian man has appeared in court charged with rape.
Callum Johnstone, 27, of Earls Road, Whitehaven, faces charges of raping a woman aged 16 or over and assaulting a woman aged 16 or over by penetration with part of body.
The offences are alleged to have taken place in Whitehaven in 2022.
Johnstone did not enter pleas to either charge when he appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court with the next hearing set for October 16.
Johnstone was granted bail on the condition that he does not contact a named female by any means.
