This year Whitehaven will see the return of the Flower and Vegetable Show.
The show was popular a number of years ago but hasn't been in existence over recent years.
Whitehaven Town Council made the decision to bring the event back this September and is enthusiastic that it will be a big success.
The show will take place on September 23, St Nicholas' Gardens.
Councillor Graham Roberts said: "Things like that are of general interest to anybody, I'm not a gardener but I love to see a good flower show.
"It stimulates footfall in the town and gives a good feeling to the area, I think it's an ideal opportunity to showcase the town at its best and is a great thing that should be applauded.
"It's an ideal time to do it in the autumn and I think it's going to be a great event."
Councillor Edwin Dinsdale said: "I fully support anything that'll bring footfall into the town, the flower baskets, arrangements, and flower beds around town really do show the town at its best, anything like this I'm in favour of."
The idea for the flower show was the idea of business owner Gerard Richardson and people are invited to bring along flowers and displays to be judged with first, second and third positions to be won with a certificate.
Homemade food like chutneys and jams will also be on offer.
The mayor of Whitehaven, Chris Hayes, added: "I'm really looking forward to it. My wife is really into flowers and I can't wait to see the food on offer including the chutneys.
"It's been years since we've done something like this and I think there'll be a lot of budding gardeners and food producers out there who will want to get involved.
"It's something new, different and fresh and something new needs to be brought to the table every year."
This will be the last of the events on the Town Council's calendar until Christmas time when Whitehaven will see the return of the markets and also a fireworks display on September 8.
