Cleator Moor boxer Ben Clements was in action at the Manchester Box Cup on Sunday, July 30 in the Under 63 final.
He boxed Elliott Murray of Workington ABC, and in Round 1 Clements took the right to Murray using his jab to good effect, closing the ring down.
He was throwing good combinations and got the better of the exchanges, Elliott fought back and made the round competitive, and Clements edged around.
In the second Clements threw in confidence and upped his work rate, scored with good head and body shots, landed the cleaner punches, and forced Murray on his back foot.
Murray fought back but it was too little too late, in the third and final round Clements closed the ring down, throwing lots of combinations and forcing the standing count. Murray fought back but it was a dominant display by Clements who won the contest unanimously.
Club coach Arron Adair said: "I was happy with the way Ben boxed, it was a dominant display of boxing.
"He showed a good range of punches, good defense, good footwork and he will come one from the experience. I'm looking forward to the next contest."
