A LONG-standing member of the Labour Party in Whitehaven has resigned from the party after being told he was under investigation for a retweet.
Karl Connor, a former chair and vice-chair of Copeland Constituency Labour Party, announced that he has resigned from the Labour Party on Monday, July 24.
It comes after he was reportedly contacted to say he would be investigated by the party for a tweet he shared from journalist Owen Jones in relation to the now independent north-east mayor, Jamie Driscoll.
The tweet read: "His fundraising target is £25,000. In the space of an hour, he's already raised £12,000. Absolutely astonishing." It also contained a link to Jamie Driscoll’s JustGiving page, something which the Labour Party said broke procedure.
Mr Connor cited a number of abandoned policies from Labour leader Keir Starmer which he says have left him no longer believing in the leadership of the party, as well as the treatment of Cllr Joseph Ghayouba during a selection for the new Whitehaven and Workington parliamentary constituency.
