ARCHIVE Service Accreditation is the UK standard for archive services, and Cumbria Archives was one of the first to achieve accredited status in 2013.
The recent inspection included visits to Whitehaven. The Accreditation Panel praised Cumbria Archives for delivering effectively with excellent service provision.
Cumbria Archive Service remains dedicated to preserving and promoting the region's heritage.
With accredited status, it is at the forefront of raising the standards of archival services.
Cllr Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: "As a custodian of our region's rich history, Cumbria Archive Service has consistently demonstrated its commitment to preserving our cultural heritage.
"The positive feedback from the mid-point inspection is a testament to the hard work and passion of the dedicated team behind this invaluable service."
