Muncaster Castle in Cumbria is preparing to host the spectacular 'Race The Tide' obstacle run challenge, which marks its 10th anniversary this year.
The event sees runners of all levels take on one of the most challenging - and fun - 10K races in the country.
They wade and leap into rivers, crawl through mud and scramble across beautiful scenery surrounding the historic castle.
Ewan Frost-Pennington is part of the family who’ve lived in the ancestral castle for over 800 years. He said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of 'Race The Tide'.
"Since it first began it has grown and developed into a spectacular event.
“Having taken part in previous years I can honestly say it is so much fun! Over the last decade we’ve developed the obstacle course to create a challenge and a real spectacle for people to enjoy in some of the country’s most scenic landscapes.”
'Race the Tide' is an obstacle fell race over a 10K course, taking in some of the finest features in the Lake District: steep climbs, marshland, and watercourses.
It takes place on Saturday, August 12 but what started ten years ago as a race between a small group of friends has developed into a great adventure weekend.
Many entrants, families and friends now make a weekend of it with accommodation available at Muncaster's campsite, or indoor rooms.
'Race The Tide' starts in the historic gardens of Muncaster Castle and finishes near Muncaster Home Farm Barn. It includes lake swimming, hill running, water wading, rope bridge traversing, fence climbing and mud sliding.
When the challenge is completed all those taking part, or just watching the event, can head for the barn for a celebratory hog roast and ceilidh.
All visitors are welcome to go along and get involved in the festivities, whether as a runner, a marshal or just someone looking for a fun way to spend a weekend.
