WHITEHAVEN dance school, West Coast Dance, has won at Flimby Carnival in its first ever competition.

The school has been preparing to showcase the work they have been putting in for the first time.

They performed Dance Fever, a routine that was high energy and all about enjoying dance from ages 3-18.

This routine was put together in only four weeks so this is a huge achievement for the school who came away with two first places ranks in 'Dance Group' and 'Overall Winners.'

Owner of West Coast Dance, Olivia Wood said: "We finished performing and the dancers were on a high, the community spirit and feeling was overwhelming.

"Once they had found out they had won it was so emotional, not just the teachers and the parents were proud, but they were proud of themselves and you could see that."

Olivia would love to see Whitehaven Carnival return so they can showcase their dance in their own town. She said: "It would be great to see Whitehaven carnival return, we enjoyed the day on Saturday despite the weather and to be able to do that even more local would be brilliant."

"It would be great to get all the communities and dance schools from Whitehaven involved.

"I’d like to thank Flimby carnival for organising the day, to all the helpers that helped the day run smoothly despite the weather and to all the kids for putting their all into the performance."
